OMG, yes! This is why after our move last year, I told my husband we’re not moving again for a while. Just way too stressful! We were both buying AND selling a house and trying to juggle it so that not too many days passed between the two taking place…so the stress was on both sides!
You’re right, buying and selling at the same time is far more stressful! We did that with our last place and I swore to Hubby that I’d never move again – they’d have to take my cold dead body out of that house. That was a bit of an exaggeration, but it took 18 years before I was ready to tackle another move. We’re lucky to have a bit of a break in between this time, although I’m sure the stress will ramp up again at the end of March when our rental contract runs out and the new house likely won’t be ready for occupancy. At least by then the weather will be nice enough that we can live in an RV on our new property if we have to!

For months after the house sold, I dreamed that it had not really sold and I woke up in the morning with cold sweats. Fortunately, the new house made it all worth the effort and I believe that it will for you.

I haven’t had that one, but I still sometimes have the ‘exam dream’: It’s the day of the final exam but I’m late, I haven’t attended a single class, I can’t find my books, I don’t know where the exam is being held, the exam is worth 100% of the final mark, and the course is essential to my university career. Oh, and I’m naked.
At least now, 30 years after university, my dream-self sometimes stops in the middle of the dream and says, “Hey, wait, I graduated 30 years ago! This is just a stupid dream.” What a relief to wake up!
Y’all, too?? Gad, I thought I was the only one! No kidding. I hate that dream! Haven’t had it for decades, now, so I win. But for the first couple of years…
That back and forth is very familiar here, too, although not for a house sale in particular, just for EVERYTHING … health, elderly parents, pets, global warming … I’m beginning to think it’s just the way I think … nah, it couldn’t be that, could it? 🙂 Congrats on the money in the bank! I hope the new home construction goes smoothly!
Turned over Mom’s house on the 12. No more “to do” lists. Ironically they got the keys but we don’t get the money until the land title is legally transferred. So I’m still at the “waiting for the money” stage…
That’s right; one of our friends mentioned that to us, too. Apparently in Canada there’s an “Eastern Protocol” and a “Western Protocol” for real estate sales – with the Eastern one you have to wait for your money until the title is legally transferred, and you have to maintain insurance on the house until that happens; but with the Western we get the money right away. I think in Manitoba you can choose whether you want Eastern or Western, but they default to Eastern unless you specifically tell the lawyer you want Western. Weird, but it probably benefits the lawyers somehow – most things do. 😉 I’m glad you got your mom’s house, sold, though – that must be a huge relief!

That’s funny – I’ve never read Tom Clancy, but I just finished putting very similar words in Aydan’s mouth. I guess it must be one of those “universal truths”! 😉
I like Clancy’s early work. Red October and Red Storm Rising are just excellent. Especially for readers who are tech savvy, military savvy, and filled with testosterone, which I was when Red October came out back in the Reagan administration. Ronald Reagan himself said Red October was ‘the perfect yarn.’
It’d be moderately beneficial for a head of state to say something that nice about one’s work, I’d think. 🙂

No need for any worry suggestions – with all the things that have gone (and are still going) wrong, I’ve got lots of scope available. 🙂 I’ve been thinking about doing a post about our (mis)adventures, but I think it would turn into an epic novel all on its own!

It is. Hubs is in heaven not having any yard duties with the new townhome. Funnily enough, my inside-the-house duties haven’t changed. Still cooking nightly, cleaning the bathrooms, hmm… 😉
Thanks, Karen! We’re supposed to sign off on our final house plan this week, and hopefully begin foundation work in about a month. The modular home supplier keeps promising that we’ll be in by the end of March, but I seriously doubt it. Still, though, we’re keeping our fingers crossed – might as well hope for the best!
Oh, yes, there’s more than enough ‘stuff’! But at least I don’t have to wake up in the middle of the night worrying that we’ll be forced to give up our dream and go back to Calgary because we couldn’t sell our house. I’m sure there will be lots of bumps along the way, but it’ll all work out one way or another.
Actually I think your “concerns ” were right on. Remember the old saying: “a sale is never made until their check clears the bank”. Congrats, OK you can breath now.
LOL! That’s true, there’s no shortage of things to worry about. But I had about 10 minutes of sheer bliss before the next ‘thing’ popped up!
The garden land was less fraught – it was a simpler transaction and a shorter closing date. I had a few hair-pulling moments, but it wasn’t too bad. I’m so glad it’s all over now – there’s nothing to force me to go back!
