  1. Congratulations! That said, you are even worse than me for worrying. No matter how worried I get over anything I can always remember, “Diane is worse.” I’m less worried already!

  2. OMG, yes! This is why after our move last year, I told my husband we’re not moving again for a while. Just way too stressful! We were both buying AND selling a house and trying to juggle it so that not too many days passed between the two taking place…so the stress was on both sides!

    • You’re right, buying and selling at the same time is far more stressful! We did that with our last place and I swore to Hubby that I’d never move again – they’d have to take my cold dead body out of that house. That was a bit of an exaggeration, but it took 18 years before I was ready to tackle another move. We’re lucky to have a bit of a break in between this time, although I’m sure the stress will ramp up again at the end of March when our rental contract runs out and the new house likely won’t be ready for occupancy. At least by then the weather will be nice enough that we can live in an RV on our new property if we have to!

  3. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. …and the anxieties, and the stress, and the Ambien, and the drinks, and the nightmares…

For months after the house sold, I dreamed that it had not really sold and I woke up in the morning with cold sweats. Fortunately, the new house made it all worth the effort and I believe that it will for you.

  5. That back and forth is very familiar here, too, although not for a house sale in particular, just for EVERYTHING … health, elderly parents, pets, global warming … I’m beginning to think it’s just the way I think … nah, it couldn’t be that, could it? 🙂 Congrats on the money in the bank! I hope the new home construction goes smoothly!

    • Turned over Mom’s house on the 12. No more “to do” lists. Ironically they got the keys but we don’t get the money until the land title is legally transferred. So I’m still at the “waiting for the money” stage…

      • That’s right; one of our friends mentioned that to us, too. Apparently in Canada there’s an “Eastern Protocol” and a “Western Protocol” for real estate sales – with the Eastern one you have to wait for your money until the title is legally transferred, and you have to maintain insurance on the house until that happens; but with the Western we get the money right away. I think in Manitoba you can choose whether you want Eastern or Western, but they default to Eastern unless you specifically tell the lawyer you want Western. Weird, but it probably benefits the lawyers somehow – most things do. 😉 I’m glad you got your mom’s house, sold, though – that must be a huge relief!

  6. OMG. Our house was on the market 2 weeks
And we had a contract on our new home.
I went through the exact things your pictures
Portrayed. Back and forth. Finally someone
Chose our house. We closed within days of
Each other. We moved out and they moved
    In. I haven’t stopped hyper-ventilating yet.
Congrats Diane, to both of us.

  7. YAY!! Congratulations! I can totally relate to your cartoon. In fact you may have been inside my head during our last round of selling and buying. So happy for you and now looking forward to tales of the building.

  8. It was in one of Tom Clancy’s books, Red Storm Rising, I think, that I found one of the perfect lines of all time.

“I know I’m being paranoid, but am I being paranoid enough?”

Generally, I find that the answer could go either way. Just sayin’…

      • I like Clancy’s early work. Red October and Red Storm Rising are just excellent. Especially for readers who are tech savvy, military savvy, and filled with testosterone, which I was when Red October came out back in the Reagan administration. Ronald Reagan himself said Red October was ‘the perfect yarn.’

It’d be moderately beneficial for a head of state to say something that nice about one’s work, I’d think. 🙂

Speaking of which, it’s good to see Book 12 cranking along again! You tho rock, Thithta!

Me? 585k+ words, 1,185 pages. Still cranking. Final battle perilously near. Somebody gonna getta WHOOPIN!! Or so I hope. 🙂

  9. CONGRATULATIONS!! Gad, what a relief that must be! We are pretty much hardened to the whole moving thing. We’ve moved around enough that from the outside it must look like we’re in the Witless Projection Clan. Or whatever.

Welcome to the next stage of whatever passes for reality in your world. :).

    • LOL! Arnie thanks you! 😉 And oops, I forgot to post my Book 12 update today! I just did it – now at 56%, and I’ve finally got a bit of time to write so I’ll be posting regular progress again.

No need for any worry suggestions – with all the things that have gone (and are still going) wrong, I’ve got lots of scope available. 🙂 I’ve been thinking about doing a post about our (mis)adventures, but I think it would turn into an epic novel all on its own!

    • Thanks! Moving is one of my least-favourite things… but this move, despite its tragi-comedy of ongoing near-disasters, hasn’t really seemed as bad as the last one. Maybe it’s because I’m so excited about our new place-to-be. Hope you’re settling into your new place comfortably!

  10. Yay! I’m thrilled to hear it. I was wondering how things were going for you. Love the cartoon, and having gone through the same thing last fall, I can completely relate. Stress every step of the way. But now you can breathe. Phew. So exciting!

    • Thanks, Karen! We’re supposed to sign off on our final house plan this week, and hopefully begin foundation work in about a month. The modular home supplier keeps promising that we’ll be in by the end of March, but I seriously doubt it. Still, though, we’re keeping our fingers crossed – might as well hope for the best!

    • Oh, yes, there’s more than enough ‘stuff’! But at least I don’t have to wake up in the middle of the night worrying that we’ll be forced to give up our dream and go back to Calgary because we couldn’t sell our house. I’m sure there will be lots of bumps along the way, but it’ll all work out one way or another.

P.S. It’s stormy here today – howling wind, pounding rain, crashing waves – it’s spectacular! 🙂

  11. Did the same anxieties exist over thee sale of the garden land?

No worries that your worries are over. The building and selection of fixtures for the new house will neatly fill the void.

    • LOL! That’s true, there’s no shortage of things to worry about. But I had about 10 minutes of sheer bliss before the next ‘thing’ popped up!

The garden land was less fraught – it was a simpler transaction and a shorter closing date. I had a few hair-pulling moments, but it wasn’t too bad. I’m so glad it’s all over now – there’s nothing to force me to go back!
